The approx. 220 km long Oued El Abid ( Arabic واد العبيد) Or Assif Lâabid ( Central Usage Tamazight ⴰⵙⵉⴼ ⵍⵄⴱⵉⴷ ) is a southern tributary of the Oum er-Rbia on the north side of the Middle Atlas in the region Beni Mellal-Khénifra in the center of Morocco .
course
The Oued El Abid rises on the north side of the Middle Atlas near the village of Sidi Yahya ou Youssef at an altitude of approx. 1900 m and initially runs in a westerly direction. The mountain stream (sometimes the term “river” is appropriate) feeds the Bin El Ouidane reservoir ; at the village of Bzou it turns to the north about 25 km southeast of the city of El Borouj to flow into the Oum er-Rbia.
Tributaries
- Assif Melloul ( Imilchil )
- Assif Tissakht ( Ouzoud Falls )
economy
The Oued El Abid is mainly used to irrigate the agricultural areas along its banks.
places
There are very few villages on the banks of the river because of the flood risk that existed in earlier times.
