Location from Ouirounon to Ptolemy

Ouirounon , also Virunon ( Greek  ?? Οὐιρουνον ; Latin Virunum ) is a place name used by Ptolemaios in his Geographia coordinate system created around 150 as one of the places (πienλεις) with 40 ° 30 in northern Germania , near the sea coast ' Longitude ( Ptolemaic degrees of longitude ) and 55 ° 00' latitude. According to Ptolemy, Ouirounon lies between Mounition and Ouirition . Theodor Steche suspects Ouirounon to be in the area of the Sidiner .

localization

So far the ancient place could not be located with certainty. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined and interpreted the Ptolemaic coordinates from 2006 to 2009, is currently locating Ouirounon in the area near Drawsko Pomorskie (Dramburg) in Poland .

Ouirounon is also associated with the name of the city of Waren an der Müritz and could thus be traced back to the tribal name of the Warnen . However, this derivation does not match the Ptolemaic coordinates according to which Ouirounon is east of Suevus .
