Location from Marionis to Ptolemy

Marionis ( Greek  Μαριωνίς ) is a place name that Ptolemaios used in his Geographia (Ptolemaios 2, 11) set of coordinates created around 150 as one of the places (πόλεις) in northern Germania near the sea coast with a length of 34 ° 30 ' ( Ptolemaic longitudes ) and 54 ° 50 'latitude.

localization

So far the ancient place could not be located with certainty. An interdisciplinary research team led by Andreas Kleineberg, who re-examined and interpreted the Ptolemaic coordinates from 2006 to 2009, is currently locating Marionis in the area near Schönberg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The place Schönberg on the river Maurine in the Maurine valley is possibly related to the ancient place name Marionis.
