Our revolution
Our Revolution ( English for "Our Revolution") is an American "PAC" (see: Political Action Committee ), which belongs to the progressive political spectrum. The organization was founded in 2016 . Its members and the management level were drawn from the environment of the campaign for the presidential candidacy of Bernie Sanders . Our Revolution is recognized as a 501 (c) (4) organization under US law.
founding
Bernie Sanders, a Democratic candidate for the 2016 presidential election , started Our Revolution after losing to Hillary Clinton in the primary election . The constitution took place on August 24, 2016.
Goal setting
Our Revolution states the following goals of their actions:
- "Revitalizing American Democracy"
- "Supporting progressive politicians"
- "Raising Political Awareness"
To achieve these goals, she appeals to the commitment of Sanders' supporters in the US primary campaign, on which Our Revolution would like to build. It wants to support progressive executives financially and organizationally and help with the recruitment of junior staff. She also wants to do political education work, especially on climate change and the social decline of the American middle classes .
structure
Our Revolution is headed by a Board of Directors of 11 people. The members ( as of January 2017 ) are:

- Ben Jealous , civil rights activist
- Jim Hightower , political activist
- Jim Zogby , human rights activist especially for the Arab-American population
- Huck Gutman , former Chief of Staff for Bernie Sanders
- Jane Kleeb , environmental activist
- Lucy Flores , politician
- Larry Cohen , union leader for the Communications Workers of America
- Catalina Velasquez , justice and civil rights activist
- Shailene Woodley , actress
It gives a number of 40,000 active supporters.
Conflicts
Shortly after its inception, eight board members left the organization with the appointment of a former Sanders manager, Jeff Weaver , as president. In the opinion of the critics, Weaver was responsible for the poor organization of Bernie Sanders' election campaign. Another point of criticism was Weaver's approval as a 501 (c) (4) organization, which allows large donations but restricts the possibility of direct political work. The direct coordination of campaigns by individual applicants is not permitted in this type of organization.
Naming
"Our Revolution" is also the title of a book published in October 2016 by Bernie Sanders.
