Out of the Blue - 22 hours fear is a New Zealand film drama from the year 2006 based on true events.

action

In the tranquil coastal town of Aramoana, New Zealand , people live together peacefully and everyone knows everyone. David Gray, the somewhat stubborn and inconspicuous loner David Gray, also belongs to the community. Until November 13, 1990 , when the children in the neighborhood walk over his property one too often. Gray steps angrily outside the door and gets into a heated argument with the children's father, whereupon he returns to the house, takes a rifle and shoots anything that moves at random. His first victims are the father and two of the three children. The advancing local police are tactically unable to match Gray's firepower and unpredictability. Gray hides in the tall grass near his hut and shoots several people, including police officer Stewart Guthrie . He then combed the place for further victims and barricaded himself in a house. Only the next day does a special unit manage to drive Gray into the open with tear gas and capture him. A total of 14 people are killed.

criticism

  • film-dienst : The semi-documentary staged film based on a true crime series offers no explanations, but a chronology of the events, whereby the delayed staging creates a threatening, frightening atmosphere. Well played, the story, told from multiple perspectives, condenses into an incredible tragedy.

background

The film is a film adaptation of the rampage in Aramoana , New Zealand from November 13th to 14th, 1990. The 33-year-old resident David Gray steps in front of the door of his small house with an assault rifle with a telescopic sight and shoots 13 people. He is not caught by a special unit until the next day, and he is killed. It was the most deadly shootout in New Zealand's history to this day and resulted in a change in gun laws there.
