Jacob and Lian are forced to fight their way free. They retreat to the mountains and are rescued by Gallain. Gallain is a former comrade of Jacob, also disillusioned with the war and known in China as the bandit leader The White Ghost . In hiding, Jacob's wounds are healed and the two make up for the deeds they committed during the Crusades.

Gallain and his bandits are pursued by Shing and his Black Guard who attack the hideout. In the battle that follows, Gallain and his bandits kill large numbers of the Guard, but Gallain is ultimately killed. Jacob fights Shing but is badly wounded. When Lian intervenes, Shing stabs her. In anger, Jacob overwhelms Shing and kills him.

Captain Peng, who witnessed Shing's betrayal, promises Zhao the loyalty of the Black Guard . Jacob and Lian survive their injuries and together with Zhao and Xiaolei they are accompanied by the Black Guard to the city, where Zhao is appointed the new emperor. Jacob leaves his sword on a grave next to Gallain's grave and disappears.
