Ove Karlsson (soccer player)
Ove Gustav Edhem Karlsson , from 1957 Ove Widricks , (born August 2, 1915 in Malmö , † May 23, 1982 ) was a Swedish football player . The defender , who came to an international match for the Swedish national team in 1945 , played in over 200 games in the Allsvenskan for Malmö FF and AIK .
Career
Karlsson grew up in the Malmö district of Östergård . He started playing football at BK Flagg before joining Malmö FF in the mid-1930s. There he was one of the pillars of the team that helped establish the club in the Allsvenskan. In the following years , the trained welder played alongside Hans Håkansson , Erik Nilsson , Sture Mårtensson and Kjell Rosén in the first division and achieved the club's best result to date in the 1938/39 season . By the summer of 1943, he played 114 first division games for the club in which he was denied a goal.
In the summer of 1943, Karlsson moved to AIK within Allsvenskan. At the club from Solna, he immediately established himself in the regular formation and did not miss a minute in his first three seasons. At the side of Harry Nilsson , Börje Leander and Henry Carlsson , he took part with the team on foreign tours to the Netherlands and Turkey , but also played against Stanley Matthews . In September 1945 he played his way into the national team. At the side of other debutants such as Birger Rosengren and Knut Nordahl , he made his international debut in Helsinki in a 6-1 victory over the Finnish national team with goals from five-time goalscorers Börje Tapper and Oskar Holmquist .
In 1948 Karlsson left AIK after 104 first division games in the direction of IFK Eskilstuna . There he covered the post of player-coach until the summer of 1951, before ending his active career. He then looked after the lower-class clubs IF Älgarna and IF Brommapojkarna . He later returned to AIK as a supervisor for the B team.
In 1957 Karlsson changed his surname to Widricks, but remained a household name among followers under his old name.
