Ovidiu Iuliu Moldovan (born January 1, 1942 in Sărmașu , † March 12, 2008 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian actor .

Life

Moldovan's father died in captivity during the Second World War . His mother later remarried and had two more sons. With these she moved to Bucharest. There Moldovan completed his acting studies in 1964 at the National University of Theater and Film Arts "Ion Luca Caragiale" , among others with Marțian Pop and Octavian Cotescu . He made his theatrical debut a year later in the role of Mio in Maxwell Anderson's Winterset at the National Theater in Timișoara . He was able to establish himself as a stage actor and played important roles in plays by William Shakespeare , Albert Camus and Seneca over the next few decades . At the same time, he began to appear regularly in Romanian films from the mid-1970s.

After his mother died in 1995, Moldovan refused to make feature films. He withdrew privately and was only seen at poetry readings with the actress Valeria Seciu and at the theater. He played his last role in 2004 at the National Theater in Bucharest. Since then he has lived in seclusion, without a family, from his retirement in a small abode in Breaza . He himself had suffered from diabetes for years and died on March 12, 2008 at the age of 66 from cirrhosis of the liver in the Bucharest University Hospital.
