Owls is an American emo band from Chicago , Illinois .

Band history

Owls first formed in 2001 under the name The Civil War and was supposed to represent a revival of the legendary emo formation Cap'n Jazz , which had disbanded in 1995. The Owls line-up consisted of the brothers Tim Kinsella and Mike Kinsella along with Victor Villarreal and Sam Zurick. Tim Kinsella and Zurick already played together with Joan of Arc , Villarreal and Zurick in turn played instrumental rock together with Ghosts and Vodka . Davey von Bohlen , also a member of the original formation, had founded the emo band The Promise Ring and therefore did not participate in the new line-up. Owls released a longplayer under the band name on Jade Tree Records in 2001 , but broke up in 2002 after a compilation contribution, allegedly due to Victor Villarreal's heroin addiction. While Mike Kinsella started his solo project Owen after the breakup , Zurick and Tim Kinsella continued to make music together on Kinsella's project Friend / Enemy . Victor Villarreal founded Noyes .

In 2012 the band decided to start over and released the album Two in 2014 .
