Oxbüll ( Danish : Oksbøl ) is a small village and today belongs to the municipality of Wees , on the outskirts of Flensburg - Mürwik .

geography

Oxbüll consists of two parts, Oxbüll-Nord and Oxbüll-Süd, which are separated by Nordstrasse (B 199). The original farming village lies to the north and has changed little in appearance and size since the 19th century. Due to its location, Hof Oxbüll-Nord 9, with its thatched-roof residential and farm buildings, is particularly present today . Nowadays it is located directly on the north road that leads to Flensburg. Said farm shop Oxbüll-Nord sells eggs and poultry. The Oxbüll-Nord road continues to Ulstrup , a Wees suburb of Glücksburg . The southern part of Oxbüll consists of newer buildings and is directly adjacent to the hamlet of Roosgard. The Oxbüll-Süd road is an extension of the Roosgard road to Rüllschau , which today belongs to the municipality of Maasbüll . Flensburg- Mürwik is 2 kilometers away from Oxbüll. Mürwik's center, the Twedter Plack , is about 5 kilometers away.

history

The origin of the name of the village is unclear. Hans Nicolai Andreas Jensen assumed that the name would go back to the "yard of an ocko". Another, more obvious guess, is that the name was derived from the ox . Apparently people lived in the area already in ancient times, because several burial mounds were discovered near Oxbüll. Oxbüll was apparently first mentioned in 1582. At this time, Johann the Younger took over the area. In the past the village Rubüll (Danish Rubøl ) was located directly south of Oxbüll , but it disappeared at some point. Around 1922 there was a pub Rübelei (Danish Rubølled Kro ) on Oxbüllfeld, in the area of what is now southern Oxbüll, and its name was reminiscent of Rubüll. The name of the Rübelei inn can still be found today on city maps as a place name for the area in question. A map of the Prussian land survey from 1879 shows the northern farms of Oxbüll, which also existed at that time. A mill is said to have existed near Oxbüll around 1900, but it was shut down before the Second World War . In 1910 there were 203 people in Oxbüll and in 1919 only 176 people. In the referendum in Schleswig in 1920, the inhabitants of Oxbüll voted in the second zone. 130 votes went to Germany and 14 to Denmark. The population of Oxbüll continued to fluctuate in the following years: in 1925 there were 178 inhabitants, 193 in 193 and 187 in 1939. Only after the Second World War did the village grow with a few new buildings on the road towards Wees and today's Oxbüll-Süd or Rubüll or Rübelei.
