Pontifical Theological Faculty "Marianum"

The Pontifical Faculty of Theology “Marianum” in Rome ( it . : Pontificia Facoltà Teologica “Marianum” ) is the theological faculty of the Servite Order and serves the regular theological studies .

history

Pope Boniface IX (1389-1404) had on January 30, 1398 granted the Servite superior general the right to award academic degrees . This privilege was granted by Popes Clement VIII (July 11, 1604), Paul V (June 6, 1606), Urban VIII (December 19, 1633 and January 9, 1639) and Alexander VII (April 10, 1658) ratified . On February 26, 1666, the first religious educational institution was founded in the monastery of San Marcello in Rome . Pope Clement IX (1667–1669) approved the statutes on February 21, 1669 . In 1870, after the occupation of Rome, the institute was closed. The St. Alexis Falconieri educational institution was reopened in 1895 with a new name . In 1928 she moved into a house on Viale Trienta Aprile in Rome, which is still the headquarters today.

With the Apostolic Constitution Deus scientiarum dominus of May 24, 1931 Pope Pius XI. (1922–1939) the Servite College for the theological faculty. In 1950 the academic training center was given the rank of Pontifical College . With the decree Caelestia honorandae Reginae of December 8, 1955, the theological faculty received its final destination. From now on the official name was "Theological Faculty Marianum". In 1968 the statutes and study guidelines were revised according to the provisions of the Second Vatican Council . On January 1, 1971, the Congregation for the Seminars and Study Institutions of the Theological Faculty awarded the title “Pontifical Theological Faculty Marianum”.

The Mariological Institute

In 1957 the faculty opened the "Mariological Institute", which is authorized to award degrees in the " Mariology " department . In addition to licensing and doctoral studies , a two-year mariological course is also offered. The focus is on the pastoral importance of Mariology. The Congregation for Catholic Education gave its approval to the Institute on March 7, 1960 diplomas to teach in Mariology. This approval was extended on March 7, 1965 to the award of a doctorate in theology with a focus on Mariology.

The office of Grand Chancellor of the Faculty is always occupied by the Superior General of the Servites. After 2011 this will be Father Ángel María Ruiz Garcica .

Bureau

The top management level is the President (Father Salvatore Maria Perrella , Professor of Dogmatics and Mariology) and his deputy. The entire Presidium consists of the President, his deputy, four other Presidium members and one representative each from the lecturers and students.

Faculty Council

The faculty council is another governing body; this council includes the full presidium, the reins of the seminary , a student representative and other representatives of the faculty.

Administration and staff

This department includes the secretary and his deputy, the librarian , the administrative director and a coordination staff .

Rivista "Marianum"

The faculty has been the publisher of the "MARIANUM" - Ephemerides Mariologiae magazine since 1939.
