The Roman Catholic Church celebrates their common feast day on February 17th. In Florence , the seven wealthy gentlemen founded the Ordo Servorum Mariae (Servite Order) in 1233 . They venerated Our Lady Mary and, after giving up their possessions and looking after their families, devoted their lives to the service of the poor and sick. The Bishop of Florence assigned them the Monte Senario ( dt .: The sounding mountain) near Florence as their religious and residence . Here they lived according to the Augustinian rules and were in 1304 by Pope Benedict XI. recognized as a religious community. The "seven" were venerated like saints already during their lifetime, and this veneration continued after their death. They were buried on the Monte Senario, their relics are kept there in a shrine in the "Seven Fathers Chapel". This place quickly developed into a place of pilgrimage that is well known today .

He was ordained a priest in 1241 and was a participant in the First Council of Lyons in 1245 on behalf of the Superior General Bonfilius . Brother Benedict founded the first Servite settlement in France . In 1260 he became Provincial of Tuscany and in 1265 succeeded General Superior Jacob of Siena in office. In 1267 he resigned from this office for reasons of age and died in 1268 on Monte Senario.
"Amadeus Amidei" fresco
  • Amadeus Amidei (Bartholomäus) (* in Florence; † (? 12 February / 18 April) 1266 in Monte Senario) came from the respected noble family Amidei . He lived in seclusion as a hermit on Monte Senario. Legend has it that at the hour of his death a flame could be seen over his head. This phenomenon was traced back to his name, because "Amidei" or "Amadio" means "love God".
  • Sosteneus di Sostegno (Gerardino) also Gerardino or Gherardino di Sostegno (* 1205 ; † 1282 ) led the Servites in Umbria from 1260 and brought the first friars to Germany.
St. Alexis Falconieri (1200-1310)
  • Alexis Falconieri also Alessio Falconieri (* around 1200 in Florence; † February 17, 1310 Monto Senario) was the son of the influential merchant Bernard Falconieri, who belonged to the Guelphs . Alexis joined a pious "Brotherhood of the Most Holy Virgin" at an early age, and it was here that he met the other co-founders. He lived a secluded life and refused to be ordained a priest as "unworthy". As a mendicant monk, he collected money and food for the religious community, and by collecting donations he supported the building of the church in Cafaggio (near Florence) in 1252. As a spiritual father he accompanied his niece Juliana von Falconieri , who later became a saint and founder of the Servite order. He was the only one to experience the papal approbation of the Servites by Pope Benedict XI in 1304 .
