Pétanque European Cup 2008

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pétanque Euro Cup in the pétanque ball sport has been organized by the Confédération Européenne de Pétanque (CEP) since 1997. The national champions of the CEP and the defending champion are entitled to participate.

In 2008, 20 teams started. This is the highest number of participants in the history of the competition. At the turn of the year 2007/2008, the petanque federation Great Britain dissolved, instead pétanque federations were formed in England, Wales and Scotland, which were incorporated into the Fédération Internationale de Pétanque et Jeu Provençal (FIPJP). All three countries as well as Turkey have registered teams for the EuroCup 2008.

draw

As a preliminary round, a so-called cadrage (tournament) is played to reduce the field of participants to 16 teams. At the spring meeting of the CEP on April 5th and 6th, the cadrage, the eighth and quarter finals were drawn. There is no second leg in all rounds.

These four teams will play a final round in Genoa from December 5-7, 2008, probably as poule .

The German champion BC Sandhofen Mannheim won in the cadrage at the Scottish champion Fochabers Petanque Club. Fochabers is in the Scottish administrative district of Moray . You are now playing in the round of 16 at home against French champions DUC de Nice . This also won the cadrage at the Turkish champions Nilufer SC Bursa . Philippe Quintais , Henri Lacroix and Philippe Suchaud play for Nice . Lacroix and Suchaud are reigning world champions, together with Quintais, multiple times.

The finalists of the Pétanque European Cup 2007 will also meet in the round of 16 . The reigning European champion Anpi Molassana-Casellese (Italy) has to compete on September 13, 2008 at the second PC Auderghem St-Anne Brussels (Belgium) last year .
