The phosphofructokinase, platelet type (in German phosphofructokinase type blood platelets , PFKP ) is an enzyme that forms the platelet (P) subunit of the tetrameric enzyme phosphofructokinase 1 and catalyzes the rate-limiting step of glycolysis , namely the conversion of D- fructose-6- phosphate to D- fructose-1,6-bisphosphate . PFKP is the same PFKP - gene that in humans to chromosome 10 is, encoded .
function
The PFKP gene codes for the platelet isoform of phosphofructokinase 1 ( PFK1 ). Phosphofructokinases catalyze the irreversible conversion of fructose-6-phosphate to fructose-1,6-bisphosphate and are key enzymes for glycolysis. The PFKP gene mapped on chromosome 10p is also expressed in fibroblasts . In platelets expressed tetrameric phosphofructokinase enzymes can consist of the subunits P4 P3L and P2L2.
