The vehicles with the designation MBxd2 are narrow gauge - railcar of Polish State Railways PKP for the track widths mm 750 up to 1000.

history

To renew the vehicle fleet of the narrow-gauge railways of the PKP, the locomotive factory “23. August 1944 “( FAUR ) in Bucharest ( Romania ) a four-axle narrow-gauge railcar under the type designation A20D-P. In 1984 two meter-gauge prototypes were built and delivered to the PKP in March 1985. They were given the numbers 301 and 302 and, due to their design, the designation "MBxd2". Although this is actually not a series designation, but only an encryption of features, it is in fact a single series, as there are no other vehicles with this combination of features in the PKP.

The individual letters of the designation MBxd2 stand for

  • M: Narrow gauge railcar (motorowy)
  • B: second class
  • x: four axes
  • d: high pressure internal combustion engine
  • 2: hydraulic power transmission

In 1985, series production began with eight railcars for meter gauge. They differ from the prototypes mainly in the corrugated side and front panels. 1986 20 railcars for 750 mm were built and two more railcars for 1000 mm were delivered. In the case of the MBxd2 for 750 mm, the top speed was reduced to 40 km / h (60 km / h for 1000 mm) by changing the gear ratio in consideration of the route conditions. The series vehicles were given the numbers 303–312 (1000 mm) and 210–229 (750 mm).

From 1984 to 1988, 100 outwardly similar passenger cars of the type “Bxhpi” with the manufacturer designation “A208P” were delivered to PKP. However, these only ran in exceptional cases (especially with the Gdańska Kolej Dojazdowa) behind type MBxd2 railcars and were usually used in locomotive-hauled trains.

While the MBxd2 for 1000 mm were delivered to all four meter-gauge narrow-gauge railways operated by PKP, the number of multiple units delivered for 750 mm was only sufficient for a few selected railways. The MBxd2 were shipped from the factory to the following railways:

Sidecar type Bxhpi

Implementation began as early as 1989 when, after passenger traffic on the Piaseczyńska Kolej Dojazdowa was stopped, both MBxd2s made their way to Stargardzka Kolej Dojazdowa and Koszalińska Kolej Dojazdowa.

The Krośniewicka Kolej Dojazdowa had problems with the maintenance of the railcars, so that four of their six MBxd2 had to be parked after a few years.

Extensive implementations took place in 1996 with the cessation of passenger traffic at Opalenicka Kolej Dojazdowa and Gdańska Kolej Dojazdowa. The MBxd2 that had become redundant came to Śmigielska Kolej Dojazdowa and Ełcka Kolej Dojazdowa in Ełk , which had no railcars until then. Three of the released railcars were scrapped. In 1999 and 2000, respectively, the Krotoszyńska Kolej Dojazdowa in Pleszew and the Średzka Kolej Dojazdowa in Środa each received an MBxd2 for the first time. When the passenger traffic on all narrow-gauge railways of the PKP was discontinued in June 2001, the Rogowska Kolej Dojazdowa was the only railway with regular passenger traffic that had not received an MBxd2.

After the resumption of passenger traffic in the following years on some of the Polish narrow-gauge railways by private companies on behalf of the local communities, some of the MBxd2s were also used again. Three of the MBxd2 for 750 mm are available at Śmigielska Kolej Dojazdowa and one each at Krośniewicka Kolej Dojazdowa and the former Krotoszyńska Kolej Dojazdowa, now known as Pleszewska Kolej Lokalna, for regular passenger traffic. Two more serve tourist traffic at the Ełcka Kolej Dojazdowa and one at the former Gdańska Kolej Dojazdowa, now known as łuławska Kolej Dojazdowa.

Regular passenger traffic was not resumed on any of the meter-gauge railways, so that the MBxd2 available at the Gryficka Kolej Dojazdowa and the Piaseczyńska Kolej Dojazdowa are only used for tourist traffic. Due to the overhang of meter-gauge MBxd2, the Żuławska Kolej Dojazdowa took over one of them for re-gauging to 750 mm. Jindřichohradecké místní dráhy ( Neuhauser Lokalbahn ) in the Czech Republic took over two railcars of both gauges . They are intended for re-gauging to 760 mm and for modernization.
