PubMed
PubMed is an English-language text-based meta-database with references to medical articles related to the entire field of biomedicine of the National Library of Medicine of the United States ( NLM). Each entry in PubMed is assigned a PubMed ID (PMID, PubMed identifier ). PubMed offers free access to the databases MEDLINE , OLDMEDLINE (before 1966) and PubMed Central (full texts).
The database was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information ( National Center for Biotechnology Information , NCBI). It can be reached via Entrez Gene , the central search system for the most important medical databases including PubMed, PubChem , nucleotide and protein sequences, protein structures, complex genomes and others. You can query the database via the web browser as well as via a programming interface (API).
As a bibliographic reference database , PubMed documents medical articles in specialist journals and contains electronic references to full-text journals. Subject area includes medicine , dentistry , veterinary medicine , pharmacy , public health , psychology , biology , genetics , biochemistry , cell biology , biotechnology , biomedicine, etc. Listed are 5633 (December 2016) biomedical journals. PubMed grows by around 500,000 documents every year. The keywords are Medical Subject Headings (MeSH). Evidence of biomedical literature from MEDLINE, scientific journal articles and online literature comprises more than 29 million "citations" (as of 2019).
