Pablo Hirndorf (2010)

Pablo Hirndorf (* 1963 in Altenbücken , Nienburg / Weser district as Holger Hirndorf ) is a German painter , sculptor and installation artist . The name Pablo is the stage name his friends gave him in his youth because of his obsession with painting pictures in the quality of the old masters .

Life

Pablo Hirndorf's family comes from Silesia and settled in the Altenbücken district in the municipality of Bücken in Lower Saxony after the end of the Second World War in 1946 . His father was a painter.

Since early childhood, Pablo Hirndorf played and worked artistically with what was available at home due to his father's job: materials in the form of leftover paint, old wallpaper books or lumps of putty for modeling.

1984 to 1986 Pablo Hirndorf studied art education at the University of Hanover, 1986 to 1992 free art at the University of Applied Sciences Hanover with Peter Krahe, Helmut Rogge and Verena Vernunft . In 1991 he obtained his diploma and in the same year became a member of the Association of Visual Artists Lower Saxony. In 1992 Hirndorf graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in Hanover as a master class student .

In 1993 he received a studio grant from the state of Lower Saxony. In the same year Pablo Hirndorf founded a studio in Warpe in the Nienburg / Weser district in Lower Saxony. Hirndorf decided to consciously live with his family in the middle of nature.

Pablo Hirndorf's work materials often consist of things that are overlooked in everyday life: old metal sheets, worthless pine, floorboards from demolished houses, straw, stubble shortly before the plowing, raw animal skins. The processing takes place with a painterly focus. When choosing his materials he follows his credo:

"I'm not looking for it - it finds me."

- Pablo Hirndorf

At the end of the 1990s, as part of his series Coming down , Hirndorf created the way of the cross 2000 , 14 panels with stations, from old copper plates of the tower roof renovation of the collegiate church St. Materniani et St. Nicolai in Bücken - while retaining the patina of the old sheets and in combination with photo fragments and overpainting the Passion of Christ.

Since then, his artistic work has developed increasingly "space-consuming" and is determined formally and thematically by the attribute "round". Hirndorf developed the techniques for these new forms of expression himself: Since 2003, the open air project field work has been in existence, in which Hirndorf has used large straw balls as printing blocks for large-format painterly graphics, which are further processed into room installations. Since 2005 he has been working on sculptures up to a height of over 4 meters in the WaldRaumKbody project , which consist of a multitude of layered round timber of various diameters. In 2007–2009 installations made of bamboo, fiber, wire, foil and clay were created, and in 2010 objects made of naturally tanned raw hides from fallow deer. In 2009 the St. Gangolf parish in Wietzen commissioned Pablo Hirndorf with the design of two large-format glass windows for the north and south sides of the transept of the Wietzen church, the design of which he based thematically on his field work .

In 2012 Pablo Hirndorf worked together with the poet Bert Strebe on the project Das Haus der Sonne . The idea was to combine Strebe's texts with his own artistic forms of expression and to create something new from them. Inspired by Strebe's poems, Hirndorf designed a house as a walk-in sculpture, a space for pictures and words.
