Pajala is a place ( Tatort ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten .
The main town of the municipality of the same name is located on the Swedish- Finnish border about 100 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle on Torne älv .
Sights include the sundial , the church and the home of the provost and botanist Lars Levi Læstadius , who is buried in Pajala. The Pajala Market is held in June every year.
The novel Popular Music from Vittula by Mikael Niemi , which was filmed in 2004 under the same title , provides insights into life in Pajala in the 1960s and 1970s .
