Gosta Montell

Gösta Montell , also Gèosta Montell (born November 7, 1899 in Pajala , Sweden , † January 2, 1975 in Stockholm ), was a Swedish ethnographer .

Life

He took part in Sven Hedin's Sino-Swedish expedition to Central Asia from 1929–1933 . The focus of his research was 1929-1933 in Inner Mongolia , Outer Mongolia and in the Chinese imperial summer palace Jehol in Chengde . In Stockholm he was the head of the Asia department of the Ethnographic Museum (Statens etnografiska museum). This is where the extensive ethnographic collection is located, which he acquired on behalf of Sven Hedin in the years 1929–1933 in China and Mongolia .
