The Pakistan Navy is the English name for the navy of the Pakistani armed forces , which is responsible for the 1046 km long coastline of Pakistan along the Arabian Sea and for the defense of important civil ports and military bases. The navy was established in the wake of Pakistan's independence in 1947. According to Article 243 of the Pakistani Constitution, the authority rests with the President.

history

The Pakistan Navy was established on August 14, 1947, Pakistan's Independence Day. A commission split the Royal Indian Navy between Pakistan and India . The Royal Pakistan Navy, as it was then called, received two sloops , two frigates and eight other combat ships. Since the coast of Pakistan for many arms of the Indus - river deltas has the navy also received many Harbor Defense launches. The navy was inadequately equipped and the sailors had little experience at sea. It was therefore, after the army and the air force , regarded as the weakest armed force unit.

During the first war between Pakistan and India in 1947 , the navy was not used and the fighting was limited to the air force and the army. The Navy helped evacuate immigrants from India by providing frigates.

After the end of the war in 1948, the navy established its high command in Karachi and acquired its first O and P class ships. It was dependent on donations in the form of battle ships by the British Royal Navy . She received the Onslow , renamed PNS Tippu Sultan , and the Offa , renamed PNS Tariq .

Numerous members of the air force and army switched to the navy in 1950 to help set up logistics and maintenance. When Pakistan became a republic in 1956 , the Royal Pakistan Navy was renamed the Pakistan Navy.
