Pal Dukagjini

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

. Pal Dukagjini II , also Paul Ducagin , Italian Paolo Ducagini (. * Err December 1385 , † 1446 ) was an Albanian tribal leaders, Mr. Buba, Churichuchi, Leuruscho and Baschino and member of the Dukagjini - Clans .

Life

Pal II was a son of Tanush II (the great) of Fanti in the Mirdita . Like his son Nikollë II. Dukagjini , Pal was a vassal of Lekë Zaharia , the Lord of Drisht in today's Albania , Sati and Danja in today's Kosovo, Dušmanići in today's Serbia and Gladri.

Pal Dukagjini and his son Nikollë II were involved as vassals of Lekë Zaharia on March 2, 1444 at the meeting convened by Skanderbeg in Lezha . On the same day the League of Lezha , a military alliance of some Christian Albanian tribal chiefs against the Ottomans, was established . (For the other founding members of the League of Lezha see here .)

Pal, who was described as leal and generous, promised to provide a company of 5,000 soldiers at his expense. This promise was never put into practice, however, as Pal fell ill on his return and never recovered. Pal died of a stroke in December 1446 at the age of 61.

progeny

Pal left four sons: Nikollë II., Lekë III. , Progon and Gjergj IV. The first two also appeared politically. According to the - probably incorrect - tradition, Lekë is said to have been the namesake of the northern Albanian custom , the Kanun . Gjergj IV is said to have become a priest and died around 1446.
