The Palais Inzaghi is a former city ​​palace in Graz . It is located on Bürgergasse in the first district of the inner city . There are three palaces in Graz that belonged to the Inzaghi family. The other two are on Bischofplatz and Mehlplatz .

history

The house in Bürgergasse, which was in civil ownership, was first mentioned in 1596. From 1699 it belonged to Count Herberstein . In the 18th century, the Lords of Stubenberg owned it until it was acquired in 1792 by Count Johann Nepomuk Inzaghi, the owner of the palace of the same name on Bischofplatz. In 1845 the palace came into bourgeois possession and from 1902 there was an inn on the premises. In 1927 the former palace was converted into a so-called "winter beer hall" by the innkeeper Karl Zeltner. There was also a Franconia fraternity pub in the housewith the associated fencing room on the second floor. After the Palais Inzaghi was badly damaged by aerial bombs on November 1, 1944, it was extensively renovated in 1965. The palace has been owned by a private developer since 1996 and in 1997 the “Hotel zum Dom” was opened.

Architecture and design

From the oldest building structure from the 14th century, only remains of the foundation wall have been preserved. The three-storey structure was rebuilt from 1792 to 1795, whereby the palace was given its current appearance. The stone portal has an early classical frieze . The entrance leads to the inner courtyard, which is equipped with pillars and cornices . The glass roof over the courtyard was added in 1906, replaced by a solid ceiling in 1963 and later replaced by a glass roof. Augenschein 2014. Some rooms have cross vaults and in some rooms the ceilings are decorated with Rococo stucco.
