Panda is a song by the US rapper Desiigner from 2015. The first and only single of his debut mixtape New English was written by the artist together with Menace and produced by the latter together with Mike Dean .

background

Panda is based on a 2014 beat that Desiigner bought for $ 200 over the internet from European music producer Menace. He only heard about the song itself when it gradually became an online hit. When he first heard the track, it had 10,000 views; after a few days the number rose to 300,000. For the production Menace was inspired by the gloomy atmosphere of the character of the Joker . The panda that gives the title and is the theme of the text is not the animal of the same name , but the BMW X6 , whose appearance and color are reminiscent of that of a panda bear. Desiigner got the idea while playing the video game Grand Theft Auto V ; during the making, he thought of the movie The Fast and the Furious . Panda was a huge commercial success in several countries. It reached the top of the charts in the United States, was the sixth most successful song in 2016 and was awarded five times platinum. In the decade charts, it took 96th place. It also reached the top ten in Canada , New Zealand (4th place each), Australia , the United Kingdom (7th place each), the Netherlands (8th place), Finland and Denmark (10th place each). In Germany , Austria and Switzerland it climbed to positions 13, 19 and 12.
