Pandi ( spelling : #Pandi ) is the official mascot of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires .

description

Pandi is an anthropomorphic jaguar . The motif of the jaguar was chosen because the animal, which occurs mainly in northeastern Argentina, has been classified as a National Natural Monument since 2001. Pandi should make it clear to the young participants in the games that they can use sport to improve the world. Attention should also be drawn to the wild jaguars and the threat to their habitats.

Pandi is described as a persistent, generous and optimistic character who is interested in art, culture and the environment in addition to sports.

Surname

The name Pandi is derived from Panthera onca , the scientific name of the jaguar. Both the name and the figurative representation were deliberately chosen to be gender-neutral. The hashtag in front of the name is intended to refer to the digital age.
