The Panenský potok (German Jungfernbach ) is a right tributary of the Ploučnice in the Czech Republic .
course
The Panenský potok rises east of Jítrava on the western slope of the Velký Vápenný ( Great Limestone Mountain ) in the Jeschken Mountains . The brook flows on its upper reaches with a westerly, later southwesterly direction through the southern part of the Lusatian Mountains . Jítrava, Rynoltice , Kunová, Židovice, Zpěvná, Lvová, Markvartice, Jablonné v Podještědí , Zámecká, Česká Ves, Františkov, Valtinov , Tlustce and Tlustecká are located along the Panenský potok . At the western foot of the Tlustec ( Tölzberg , 591 m) the stream changes its course for a short section to the west and flows past Jáchymov and Brniště . The lower reaches of the Panenský potok leads via Hlemýždí, Velký Grunov and Pertoltice pod Ralskem to the south into the Zákupská pahorkatina ( Reichstadt hill country ), which belongs to the Ralská pahorkatina ( Rollberg hill country ). There the Panenský potok joins the Ploučnice after 28.8 kilometers at the castle bridge in Mimoň .
The previously strongly meandering stream below Jablonné v Podještědí has been continuously regulated and the banks have been planted with Canadian poplars. Remnants of the former meadows have been preserved. The Panenský potok has a significantly better water quality than the Ploučnice. In 1984 it was declared a trout water body of quality class II-III. On the section between Brniště and Mimoň, the brook often overflows its banks.
The Řetenice – Liberec railway runs through the Panenský potok valley between Mimoň and Rynoltice .
