The Paragon Software Group is a German software development company that, among other backup - and partitioning software for Windows and Mac OS X offers. The American Paragon Software Group Corporation is based in Irvine , California and has a subsidiary in China . history
The company was founded in 1994 by students of the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) under the leadership of Konstantin Komarov. Just one year later, Paragon formed a separate business unit called the Smart Handheld Devices Division (SHDD) for the business with software on handheld devices. From June 1998 Komarov shared the management with Max Gramespacher, who was also the managing director of the IT service provider ComKom Gesellschaft für Computer & Kommunikation in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler , from September 1999 in Aitern . In April 2002, however, Gramespacher left the management team at Paragon Technologie and concentrated solely on managing ComKom.
In 2007 Paragon Technologie GmbH moved its headquarters from Buggingen to Freiburg.

Paragon System Utilities
Software solutions for storage management and data backup on home computers and servers in companies and authorities , with the home products Hard Disk Manager , Drive Copy , Partition Manager and Backup & Recovery for Microsoft Windows , as well as Hard Disk Manager for OS X . Paragon Protect & Restore and Paragon Deployment Manager are also available for medium-sized and large companies .
A special focus is the development of universal file system drivers (UFSD). These are offered both for embedded systems and for use on home computers . Data carriers that are set up with the Linux file system ext2 , ext3 , or ext4 , in the Windows file system NTFS or under OS X in HFS + can be read and written not only via the associated operating system, but also via one of the other two operating systems .
Smart Handheld Devices Division (SHDD)
The SHDD division offers customer-specific applications for mobile devices such as PDAs and smartphones , today in particular the Slovoed dictionary technology, which is used in the smartphone apps from Duden (since 2007), PONS , Langenscheidt and the Oxford English Dictionary . However , it also publishes its own dictionaries in the form of apps under the name Slovoed . Dictionary technology was first released in 2000 for the Palm OS mobile operating system . An SDK for handwriting recognition called PenReader is also distributed.
Software for Nokia's Symbian OS is offered under the brand name epocware .

Paragon sells its products through resellers, distributors or as OEM products (bundled with products from hardware manufacturers) to both private customers and companies. The technologies developed by the Paragon Software Group are used in products from Dell, Toshiba, NEC, Siemens, Phoenix Technologies, Microsoft and Nokia, among others. Paragon Software Group is one of the market leaders in the field of data backup software. Paragon Backup & Restore was the third most widely used backup software in 2013 after Acronis True Image and Macrium Reflect .
