The Parchi di Nervi (Italian: Parks of Nervi ) are an important botanical park in Nervi , Genoa . The complex consists of an amalgamation of private parks, which formerly belonged to larger mansions in Nervi. These include Villa Gropallo , Villa Saluzzo Serra , Villa Grimaldi Fassio and Villa Luxoro , all of which are now under municipal administration and form the Nervi Museum Group .

Characteristics

The surface of the park is about 92,000 square meters, making it the largest green space in the Ligurian capital. It is bordered on one side by the Via Aurelia , on the opposite side by the rocky coast of the Ligurian Sea and towards Ponente (west) by the city center itself. There are more than 100 different plant species on the park grounds. In addition to the typical Mediterranean flora, there are also exotic and tropical plants. In addition to agaves , palms of all kinds, cedars and araucarias , oleanders , pepper and olive trees grow in the shade of huge pine trees . There is also a rosarium in the easternmost part of the park complex .

In the Parchi di Nervi there are five trees declared as natural monuments (the Liguria region has a total of 18 trees under special protection); there is one specimen each of the following species:

The adjacent elevations of the Apennines offer the district protection from harmful weather influences and are responsible for the above-average temperatures, in contrast to the rest of Genoa. This makes the Parchi a popular destination even in winter.

A special feature is the large squirrel colony in the park. The introduced gray squirrels of American origin are very trusting and, to the delight of the younger park visitors in particular, like to be fed.
