Pare, Escute, Olhe (Eng .: hold, hear, see) is a documentary about the extensive closure of the Linha do Tua railway in northern Portugal .

action

The film documents the prehistory and the current history of the Linha do Tua railway line along the Rio Tua in 2009. The route, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, was largely closed in favor of a controversial dam project. Based on historical recordings of Portuguese presidents ( Mário Soares , Cavaco Silva ) and their statements on the importance of the route for the structurally weak area, on the basis of current recordings that document the natural charm of the area, and on the basis of encounters with locals and meetings with committed citizens and theirs The film presents the social, economic and ecological relationships with different opinions.

reception

One of the old, eponymous warning signs in Portugal

After showing at various film festivals, it was released in Portuguese cinemas on April 8, 2010.

The film has a combative, stirring note, even if it mostly shows impressive shots of nature and people in calm, high-contrast and color-intensive images. Director Pelicano also set up a website to match the film, and he became the mouthpiece of a growing opposition to the dam project and for maintaining the route.

The film was shown at various festivals. He also won several prizes, such as the best Portuguese documentary film at Doclisboa and the Caminhos do Cinema Português , and the great environmental award at CineEco . It also gained attention abroad, where it ran at various festivals and was also awarded.
