The Partido do Desenvolvimento Nacional ( Portuguese ), or in Tetum Partidu Dezenvolvementu Nasional ( German  Party of National Development ) PDN is a political party in East Timor . The party's president is Fernando Dias Gusmão . The Secretary General is Lucas Soares .

history

On December 7, 2008, the election of the new chairman of the Partido Social Democrata PSD led to a voting vote between the incumbent Foreign Minister Zacarias da Costa and PSD General Secretary Fernando Dias Gusmão. When Gusmão lost the vote, he left the PSD and founded the PDN with supporters on May 30, 2009.

On July 2, 2009 it was reported that the PDN wanted to officially register for the upcoming local elections on October 9, but the PDN only submitted the necessary documents for registration as a political party to the CNE on April 1, 2010 . The PDN ran for the first time in the 2012 parliamentary elections on July 7th. Like the PSD, it failed at the three percent hurdle. The PDN received only 9,386 votes (1.99%). It received over 3% in Ainaro (3.22%), Bobonaro (6.90%), Cova Lima (4.44%) and Liquiçá (3.05%).

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , the PDN received 0.68% of the vote and thus failed to pass the four percent hurdle. The PDN then joined the Fórum Demokrátiku Nasionál (FDN), but left the party alliance again at the end of 2017. To this end, the PDN became a member of the Frenti Dezenvolvimentu Demokratiku (FDD) on December 11, 2017 . Since the FDD was only able to win three seats in parliament in the early parliamentary elections in 2018 , the PDN again did not receive a seat in parliament. The FDD broke up shortly afterwards due to disputes following the election of the parliamentary presidium.
