Parvez Sharma is an Indian journalist and film director. He is best known internationally for the documentary A Jihad for Love about homosexual Muslims .

biography

Sharma was born in India and spent part of his childhood there. He attended schools in India , the United States, and the United Kingdom . After finishing school, Sharma studied English literature at the Presidency College of the University of Calcutta . Sharma received her Masters from Jamia Millia Islamia University . He also received degrees in journalism from the University of Wales , Cardiff and the American University School of Communication.

Sharma currently lives in New York City as openly gay and is Muslim.

In his professional work, Sharma deals with the topic of homosexuality and Islam . As a freelance journalist, he works for various media and institutions, such as BBC World Television in India, the Discovery Channel in the United States and the World Bank .

Sharma's internationally best known work is the documentary A Jihad for Love . The documentary refutes the opinion, especially in some Islamic countries, that there are no Muslim homosexual people in these countries. The documentary sheds light on the hidden life of Islamic homosexual people in predominantly Islamic countries such as Saudi Arabia , Iran , Iraq , Pakistan , Egypt and Bangladesh .

Even before its creation, Sharma wrote in newspaper articles on the subject of homosexuality and Islam, for example in the article Emerging from the Shadows in The Telegraph newspaper in India . He also wrote on the subject for The Huffington Post newspaper .
