Pascal Gentil (born May 15, 1973 in Paris ) is a French Taekwondoin .

Career

Gentil's first international success was winning the 1994 European Championship in Zagreb in the weight category over 83 kilograms. The following year he was runner-up in this class in Manila . In the final he was defeated by Kim Je-gyoung . This was followed by winning the silver medal at the 1996 European Championships in Helsinki and another title win at the 1998 European Championships in Eindhoven . In 1999 he won the Olympic qualification tournament and competed at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in the weight class up to 80 kilograms. In the semifinals he was defeated by the later Olympic champion Kim Kyong-hun with 2: 6, but then prevailed in the battle for bronze against Khalid Al-Dosari with a knockout . In 2004 he was again Vice European Champion in Lillehammer and won the European qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Athens . As in 2000, Gentil was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual Olympic champion, again with Moon Dae-sung it was a South Korean. The subsequent fights he again decided for himself and thus secured his second Olympic bronze medal. Following the games, he was again European champion in 2005 and in 2008 came second for the third time.

At French championships, he won a total of 18 titles by 2016. He graduated from ESSEC .

In 2004 he received the National Order of Merit in the officer's class .
