European Taekwondo Championships 1996
The 1996 European Taekwondo Championships took place from October 26-27, 1996 in Helsinki , Finland . The title fights were organized by the European Taekwondo Union (ETU). A total of 16 competitions took place, eight each for women and men in different weight classes.
The most successful nation was Spain with six gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Spain thus won the most medals at the same time. The Netherlands and Sweden placed in the following ranks , both with two gold medals each. Germany was the fourth most successful nation with two golds, one silver and three bronze medals. Fadime Helvacioglu and Aziz Acharki became European champions, Bettina Hipf lost her final fight and took silver. Bronze went to Sonja Schiedt , Sabine Collin and Marcus Nitschke .
