Patricia Barbara Zimmermann (born December 13, 1914 in Freidorf , Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † May 10, 2007 in Ingolstadt ) was a German Benedictine nun from the Order of Saint Lioba who was defeated in 1952 by the Bucharest military court for treason, espionage for the Vatican and sentenced to 23 years in prison and hard labor for the United States and Nazi propaganda .

Patricia Zimmermann was born in Freidorf, today a district of Timișoara , in 1914 . She attended high school in Timișoara, Periam and Freiburg . In 1939 she joined the order of the Benedictine Sisters in Sankt Lioba and then worked in the religious office in Timișoara. Together with the prioress Hildegardis Wulff , she worked as a helper for the returnees of the Romanian Germans deported to the Soviet Union and the Germans who fled the camps of Yugoslavia .

On August 18, 1950, Zimmermann and Wulff were arrested for treason, espionage for the Vatican and for the United States, and Nazi propaganda, and sentenced by the Bucharest Military Court on February 19, 1952 to 23 years in prison and forced labor. Patricia Zimmermann was incarcerated successively in the prisons in Bucharest, Jilava , Mislea , Arad , Miercurea Ciuc , Brașov and Văcărești .

On May 31, 1959 she was brought to East Berlin together with Hildegardis Wulff, Canon Josef Nischbach , the former member of the Banat Swabians in the Romanian parliament Franz Kräuter and the student Winkler to East Berlin , where they were exchanged for two Romanian spies.

On June 1, 1959, the four former political prisoners were handed over to the West Berlin police and finally came to the motherhouse of the Benedictine Sisters of St. Lioba in Freiburg-Günterstal . Patricia Zimmermann worked in the Freiburg Caritas Association. Since 1980 she has worked as a catechist at the state vocational training center for agriculture , housekeeping and social care in Schweinfurt . In 1981 she retired and lived in Hambach near Schweinfurt.

Sister Patricia Zimmermann died on May 10, 2007 in Ingolstadt.
