Patrick Roy (born August 30, 1957 in Denain , North Department , † May 3, 2011 in Valenciennes , North Department) was a French politician of the Parti socialiste (PS).

Life

Roy began his political career within the PS in local politics and was first Vice- Mayor of his native Denain in March 2001 and at the same time from March 2001 to March 2008 a member of the General Council of the North Department.

In June 2002 he was elected for the first time as a member of the National Assembly and represented the constituency of North XIX until his death as the successor to Patrick Leroy . He was also mayor of Denain between 2008 and his death.

Roy was known not only for his fondness for red suits in the National Assembly, but also for heavy metal - music , which he defended publicly on several occasions, such as during the debates over the law against copyright infringement on the Internet ( Haute Autorité pour la diffusion des oeuvres et la protection des droits sur l'Internet (Hadopi) ) or the metal - festival Hellfest . In November 2010, he announced that he had a pancreatic tumor . After his announcement that he would return to the National Assembly in February 2011, he received a standing ovation from the other MPs when he appeared in Parliament on March 15, 2011 when he thanked them for their support in the fight against cancer .

Marie-Claude Marchand was succeeded as MP after his death .
