Patrick Sahle

Patrick Sahle (born June 10, 1968 ) is a German historian . Currently (as of 2019) he works as a professor for digital humanities at the Faculty of Humanities and Cultural Studies at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal .

Life

Sahle is the third of four children of the couple Helmut and Cornelia Sahle.

After graduating from high school at Gutenberg-Gymnasium in Bergheim and completing his civil service , he studied Middle and Modern History , Political Science and Philosophy at the University of Cologne from 1990 to 1997 . He completed his studies with a master's degree . At the same time he worked from 1995 to 1997 as a tutor in Cologne at the historical seminar and at the center for historical social research. In the period from 1993 to 1996, Sahle focused on historical social research . From October 1997 onwards, he attended the Vatican Apostolic Library in Rome the diploma course in Medieval Studies , which he successfully completed in June 1998.

In November and December 1998, Sahle conducted a study as a research assistant at the Cologne Center for Historical Social Research on the subject of “Electronic access to sources. Comparative study of projects for digital inventory indexing and for digital inventory indexing "by. From November 1999 to August 2000 he worked under Wilhelm Heinz Schröder as a research assistant at the Central Archives for Empirical Social Research .

From September 2000 to August 2002, Sahle supported the research project “Codices Electronici Ecclesiae Coloniensis” led by Manfred Thaller , which is carried out by the University of Cologne and the Archbishop's Diocesan and Cathedral Library in Cologne . He then received a doctorate grant from the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, which he completed until August 2003. After a first parental leave, he worked for seven months as a research assistant at the Department of History in Cologne at the Chair for Early Modern History in September 2004. This was followed by a position as a research assistant from April 2005 to June 2007 at the Lower Saxony State and University Library in Göttingen . After another one year of parental leave, Sahle was employed as a lecturer in Humanities IT at the University of Cologne from October 2008 to 2011 . In addition to his work as a research assistant in the “Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities” (DARIAH-DE) initiative, which is committed to creating a digital research infrastructure for the humanities and cultural sciences, Sahle became a visiting professor at the Karl-Franzens in 2011 -University in Graz . After taking over the junior professorship for digital humanities at the University of Cologne from 2013 to 2014, he held an adjunct professorship in the field of digital humanities there from 2016 to 2019 .

From 2009 to 2019 Sahle worked as an employee in the Cologne Center for eHumanities (CCeH) in the management and from 2012 to 2019 in the Data Center for the Humanities (DCH), which is affiliated with the University of Cologne. From 2015 to 2019, Sahle was in charge of the operational implementation of the central coordination office for Digital Humanities for the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts (AWK).

In 2019, Sahle accepted the offer of a professorship for digital humanities at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and was appointed university professor on May 1, 2019 .

Patrick Sahle is a founding member of the Institute for Documentology and Editing .
