Patrick Schimanski (born October 31, 1964 in Worms am Rhein ) is a German director , composer , and musician

Activities as a director

Patrick Schimanski will be part of the management team of the drama division at the Stadttheater Gießen from the 2020/21 season .

Schimanski directed the Stuttgart State Opera , the National Theater Mannheim , the Schauspielhaus Zürich , the State Theater Nuremberg , the City Theater Gießen , the Ruhr Festival in Recklinghausen, the Bad Hersfeld Festival , the Bremen Theater Laboratory and at theaters in Bielefeld, Ingolstadt and Bremen. His staging of the world premiere of “Gedächtnisambulanz” by Tom Peuckert at Theater Bielefeld was invited to the virtual theater meeting of the editorial team of “Nachtkritik.de”. His staging of the opera "Erwin das Naturtalent" by Mike Svoboda at the Stuttgart State Opera had numerous performances, including at the Opera House in Krakow. Patrick Schimanski's productions are mostly characterized by sophisticated musical and rhythmic structures. Partly polyphonic chants, songs and sophisticated sound design are among his preferred stylistic devices. The music for his productions is mostly composed and produced by Schimanski himself. Also piece developments and experimental, performative formats are among Patrick Schimanski's different fields of work. Again and again he acts as a performer and actor on stage or in film. Most recently in Klaus Erich Dietl's art film "The last hole is the mouth" for which he also composed the film music.

Activities as a musician and composer

Patrick Schimanski, former master student of Pierre Favre , plays drums and composes. He composed and made music for Hans Neuenfels , Johann Kresnik , Konstanze Lauterbach , René Pollesch , Holk Freytag , Hasko Weber , Roland Schimmelpfennig , Gesine Schmidt, Thomas Oliver Niehaus and many others at the Thalia Theater Hamburg , the Deutsches Theater Berlin , the Munich Volkstheater and many others other houses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Since 2013 Schimanski has been a permanent member of the Munich composers collective "48nord", which composes, produces and performs a fusion of experimental and new music , post-pop and neo rock for ballet, dance theater, performance art, theater, film and radio. For Deutschlandradio Kultur , 48nord composed the work “The arrival of weak impulses” with Schimanski. Together with “48nord”, Patrick Schimanski realized the performance “Anatomy Of Dirt” based on texts by Christian Enzensberger for the international Munich “Spielart” festival. "48nord" composed the music for the contemporary dance theater performances "Titus Andronicus" 2017 / "CROSS" 2018 for the Gießen dance theater.
