Paul Clemen Prize

The Paul Clemen Prize (until 2008 Paul Clemen scholarship ) is an award from the Rhineland Regional Council (LVR) in the field of art history .

The then governor of the Rhine province (legal predecessor of the LVR), Heinrich Haake ( NSDAP ), set up the Paul Clemen scholarship on October 31, 1936 , on the occasion of the 70th birthday of Paul Clemen , the former first provincial curator of the Rhine province , which has been in existence since 2008 is called the Paul Clemen Prize . This award was intended to express the thanks of the Rhine Province for what Paul Clemen as a monument conservator and historian as well as a teacher and founder of the Art History Institute of the University of Bonn for the Rhenish art, the research of its history and its public awareness in more than 40 years of work.

Award

The prize, which is now endowed with 10,000 euros, is intended to promote research into Rhenish art and is primarily awarded to young art historians who work on works and issues of art in the Rhineland. The prize money can be divided into two parts. It is transferable to the next year. The management of the art history institutions in the Rhineland are requested to submit highly qualified works on Rhenish art history to the Art History Institute of the University of Bonn by June 1st of each year. Appropriate research work will then be proposed to the Landschaftsverband Rheinland in coordination with the other eligible candidates. The culture committee of the Rhineland Regional Assembly decides on the award of the prize .
