Paul Dierichs

Paul Dierichs (born September 14, 1901 in Bochum ; † November 3, 1996 in Kassel ) was a German newspaper publisher and art patron .

Life

Dierichs was the son of a publisher and print shop owner in Bochum. Following his father's wishes, he first studied metallurgy at the Clausthal mining academy . After his death he moved to Munich to study economics . In Clausthal Dierichs was a member of the Corps Montania , in Munich the Corps Suevo-Guestphalia . He began his journalistic career in Brandenburg , Koethen and Ludwigshafen am Rhein . After graduating as Dr. oec. publ. In 1929 he became the publisher of Laupenmühlen & Dierich's own publishing houseBochum Anzeiger published in Bochum , which he brought into the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ) after the Second World War . He sold his stake in WAZ in the 1960s in order to take over the printing and publishing house of today's newspaper Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine in Kassel .

Dierichs was particularly concerned with promoting science and art. He was one of the supporters of the Kassel University, which was founded in 1970 . In 1976 he founded the Paul Dierichs Foundation . He supported the collections of the city of Bochum, the collection of antiquities of the Ruhr University Bochum and the Kassel State Museums in purchasing ancient and modern works of art.
