Career
Flat began his career in 1999 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Brampton Battalion . A year later he was selected during the NHL Entry Draft 2000 by the Edmonton Oilers in the fifth round in a total of 152nd position. Those in charge of the Oilers did not exercise their transfer rights and so the Canadian continued to play in the OHL. After the right shooter could increase again with 44 scorer points in 68 games with the most points Defenders part in his team, who secured Atlanta Thrashers during the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 his transfer rights. Flat was drafted in 144th place in the fifth round.
In the summer of 2002 Paul Flache first moved to the East Coast Hockey League to the Greenville Grrrowl , one of the Thrashers' farm teams at the time. The Canadian showed good performance in the following years and was therefore recommended for the American Hockey League . There he was first used in the 2003/04 season for the Chicago Wolves , where he was part of the regular squad a little later. Still, he never got the chance to prove himself in the National Hockey League . Finally, Flat joined the 2005/06 season on the New York Islanders , who used him exclusively in their farm team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the AHL.
After Flache ultimately had little chance of getting involved in the NHL, he forced a move to Europe in the summer of 2007. There the Eisbären Regensburg became aware of the then 25-year-old and transferred him to the 2nd Bundesliga . At the end of the 2007/08 season , the polar bears had to file for bankruptcy, so Flache was forced to change clubs. Eventually Paul Flache signed a one-year contract with the Augsburg Panthers. In January 2009 he left the club and joined the upper division Herner EV 2007. For the 2010/11 season he returned to North America and joined his former club, the Gwinnett Gladiators . After two seasons in the East Coast Hockey League , Flache ended his career and has been coaching the TPH Thunder U18 in the Canadian Tier 1 Elite Hockey League since the 2013/14 season .
