Archbishop Paul Gallagher

Paul Richard Gallagher (born January 23, 1954 in Liverpool , United Kingdom ) is Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Paul Gallagher attended St. Francis Xavier's College in Woolton . He was then sent to Rome to the Venerable English College . Gallagher received on July 31, 1977 in Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral by the Archbishop of Liverpool Derek Worlock the sacrament of Holy Orders . Paul Gallagher served as an assistant priest in the Holy Name Parish in Fazakerley and as a chaplain in Fazakerley Hospital.

Gallagher was later sent to Rome at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . In 1984 he was in the subject canon law doctorate . On May 1, 1984 Paul Gallagher entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was Addetto to the Apostolic Nunciature in Tanzania . He then worked in the Apostolic Nunciatures in Uruguay and the Philippines as well as in the Vatican State Secretariat . On July 15, 2000, Pope John Paul II appointed him permanent observer at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg .

On January 22nd, 2004 Pope John Paul II appointed him titular archbishop of Hodelm and appointed him apostolic nuncio in Burundi . He was ordained bishop on March 13, 2004 by Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano in St. Peter's Basilica ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Liverpool , Patrick Kelly , and the Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Curia Archbishop Robert Sarah . On February 19, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Apostolic Nuncio in Guatemala . Paul Gallagher became Apostolic Nuncio to Australia on December 11, 2012.

On November 8, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Secretary for State Relations in the Vatican State Secretariat , an office commonly known as the "Vatican Foreign Minister".
