Paul Held (chemist)

Paul Held (born July 11, 1933 in Oebisfelde ; † April 5, 1979 in Magdeburg ) was a German chemist.

Life

After the hero had passed his Abitur in 1951 at the extended high school in Beetzendorf in the Altmark , he completed an internship at the Magdeburg chemical plant VEB Fahlberg-List in 1951/52 . From 1952 to 1958 Held studied chemistry at the Martin Luther University in Halle (Saale) . This was followed by an apprenticeship in industry, during which he did his doctorate in 1961 with Runge at the university. He then worked as a research chemist. The main focus of his work were means for plant protection and pest control. Above all, he did research in the field of chloroterpene compounds for use against insects. Melipax , a substance that is harmless to bees, achieved broad practical application in agriculture.

In 1971 he became research director of Fahlberg-List in Magdeburg- Salbke . He worked closely with universities and academies and continued to develop chemicals for agricultural use. It was important to use raw materials that the GDR had available in sufficient quantities. He has developed more than 70 patents. He was also the director of an institute in Cuba devoted to research on tropical agriculture.
