Paul Hofmann (born August 4, 1913 in Eschenbach ; † June 3, 2000 in Rapperswil , resident in Eschenbach) was a Swiss politician ( CVP ) and lawyer .

biography

Paul Hofmann, born on August 4, 1913 in Eschenbach as the son of the accountant Johann Hofmann, first attended primary school in Schmerikon , then secondary school in Uznach and finally the Schwyz college, where he graduated from high school . He then devoted himself to a study of law at the Universities of Friborg , Lausanne and Zurich , which he in 1940 with the graduation to the Dr. iur. graduated in Zurich. He then did legal internships in Solothurn and Lichtensteig until 1945 , before he was admitted to the bar in St. Gallen.

As a result, Paul Hofmann was employed at the Kaufmann law firm in Lichtensteig until 1947, before he worked as an independent lawyer in Rapperswil.

Paul Hofmann was married to Verena, the daughter of the businessman Willi Schoch. He died on June 3, 2000, two months before he would turn 87, in Rapperswil.

Political career

Paul Hofmann's political career, a member of the Christian Democratic People's Party, began in 1951 when he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of St. Gallen , of which he was a member until 1968. In addition, he took a seat on the Council of States for the canton from 1966 to 1979 . He also worked as a co-founder of the Linthgebiet working group in 1955 and as a university councilor at the University of St. Gallen from 1972 to 1984 .

At the cantonal level, Paul Hofmann was heavily involved in the reorganization of the scholarship system, which came into force in 1967; at the federal level, his main interests were financial and military issues.
