Paul Kleinewefers (born January 22, 1905 in Krefeld ; † December 18, 2001 ) was a German entrepreneur , patron and writer in Krefeld.

Life

Kleinewefers studied mechanical engineering at the technical universities of Karlsruhe and Hanover . In Karlsruhe he became active in the Corps Frisia . After completing his studies as a graduate engineer, he took over the management of the family company Joh. Kleinewefers Söhne Maschinenfabrik in Krefeld in 1929 as managing partner. He was a member of the Tat group. In August 1932 he joined the NSDAP as a member. When Hitler's speech to the Industry Club Dusseldorf he was among those present. He writes about this in his memoirs:

“For me, who had the whole hall in front of me, it was extremely interesting to see how the people who initially sat there with mask-like faces, the leading men of German industry, were changed from quarter to quarter of an hour by Hitler's speech. Only very few have kept their reserved manner to the end. The vast majority became more and more fascinated and went with them more and more. There was more and more applause. At the end of the speech, which lasted almost two hours and in which Hitler exhausted himself completely, there was uninhibited constant applause. "

His company also employed slave labor during the Second World War .

After the Second World War, Kleinewefers devoted himself to rebuilding his company. In 1991 the company had a turnover of around 500 million DM and had around 2,000 employees.

After retiring from the company, he founded the Adalbert Foundation in 1989 , which initially bore his name. He was an honorary senator of the University of Karlsruhe and winner of the Diesel Medal in gold. He was a member of the Academic Aviation Group Karlsruhe .

Kleinewefers wrote two books about the time of the Weimar Republic and about the future of a reunited Europe.

In 1961, Kleinewefers acquired the Heydevelthof and modernized it. He and his wife Eva (1909–1979) had five children, including Jan Kleinewefers , former president of the VDMA , who continued the company.
