Paul Manz

Paul Manz (born August 19, 1924 in Wila ; † October 5, 1995 in Rothenfluh ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Manz completed a theology degree at the Universities of Zurich and Basel . In 1950 he received ordination and from 1951 to 1967 he was pastor in Rothenfluh, field, radio and television preacher. From 1958 to 1967 he was the community clerk in Rothenfluh and from 1953 to 1961 the district administrator of Basel . He sat on the Constitutional Council of both Basels from 1960 to 1969 and was its President in 1965. From 1967 to 1982 he was a member of the government council and was responsible for construction and agriculture until 1975, and from then on internal affairs and sanitation.

As President of the People's Movement for the Preservation of the Independent Basel Area, Manz was a committed opponent of reunification; as a health politician and Director of the Winterthur Health Care Department, he promoted HMO practices and the expansion of home and nursing care to become a Spitex .
