Paul McDonald Calvo

Paul McDonald Calvo (born July 25, 1934 in Hagåtña , Guam ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1983 he was governor of Guam.

Career

Paul Calvo is the father of Eddie Calvo , born in 1961 , the current governor of Guam. He attended George Washington High School in Guam, the Peacock Military Academy and finally Santa Clara University in California . From 1958 he worked in the family's insurance agency in Guam. In the 1960s he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1965 he was elected to the Guam Senate. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms there. He headed the Tax and Finance Committee. He also led the Republican faction there.

In 1978 Calvo was elected as the new governor of Guam to succeed Ricardo Bordallo . He held this post between January 1, 1979 and January 1, 1983. After that, his predecessor Bordallo took over this position again. After the end of his time as governor, Paul Calvo was no longer politically active.
