Paul Mellmann

Paul Mellmann (born December 20, 1855 in Boele (Westphalia); † May 14, 1934 ) was a German headmaster and chairman of the German Association of Philologists from 1919 to 1929.

Life

The pastor's son Mellmann graduated from high school in Minden in 1875 and initially studied chemistry and metallurgy in Berlin for two years. Then in 1878 he switched to teaching science, mathematics and French. He completed the probationary year in Berlin in 1881 and began teaching at the 1st Realschule Berlin in 1885 . In 1890 he received his doctorate in Halle adS. 1906 he was appointed director of the newly established 3rd  Oberrealschule (also Königstädtische Oberrealschule ), and on April 1, 1921 he retired. In 1912 he received the title of professor and in 1918 the title of Privy Councilor .

His publications concerned science education. He was one of the members of the 1904-founded philologists Association , representing the school teacher, the less the humanistic schools were members, but for equal rights of the secondary school entered. In 1910/11 and 1918-20 he headed the Prussian delegates' conference of the association. After the First World War, on November 30, 1919, he was elected to the head of the newly organized German Philological Association. He also represented him at the Reich School Conference in 1920 . He fought shortening the high school time. In 1929 he handed over the office to Felix Wilhelm Behrend , the long-time deputy.

Mellmann was a member of the Berlin Freemason Lodge Friedrich Wilhelm for Crowned Justice .

Paul Mellmann died in 1934 at the age of 78. He was buried in Cemetery I of the Jerusalem and New Churches in Berlin-Kreuzberg . The grave is preserved.
