Paul Alexander Mitchell (born August 26, 1981 in Stalybridge ) is a former English football player and today's scout . As Head of Recruitment and Development, he has been responsible for the scouting area of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig since February 2018 .

Career

Career as a football player

Mitchell began his career at Wigan Athletic in 1999 and stayed with the club for six years. During this time it was awarded several times, more precisely to the Halifax Town AFC , Swindon Town FC and the Milton Keynes Dons . Shortly after Wigan's promotion to the Premier League in 2015, he left the Greater Manchester club . In the preseason he was only allowed to play in the Football League Championship . This was followed by another, this time permanent engagement in Milton Keynes. For the Dons he was on the field more than seventy times until 2009, at times also as their team captain . Two short-term loan deals brought him to Wrexham AFC in 2007 and Barnet FC in 2008 . On January 6, 2009, he announced his departure from professional football after injuring himself in 2007 with serious leg and ankle injuries.

Career as a scout

Mitchell was transferred to the post of Head of Recruitment for the Milton Keynes Dons in 2010 . In January 2012 he moved to the then championship club Southampton FC . For the south of England he scouted Sadio Mané , Dušan Tadić and Dejan Lovren, among others . From November 2014 to March 2017 he worked for the first division club Tottenham Hotspur . For example, he brought Dele Alli , Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld to White Hart Lane . Since February 2018 he has been Head of Recruitment and Development for RB Leipzig .
