Paul Neumann (politician, 1929)

Paul Neumann (born December 6, 1929 in Bad Ziegenhals ; † March 11, 2015 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and high school, Neumann was drafted into a tank hunting squad of the Hitler Youth at the end of the war . He was first taken prisoner by Poland, after his release he worked as a worker in a wood processing company and in 1946 fled from Silesia to West Germany as a displaced person .

Neumann attended the state commercial school in Hamburg-Harburg and then completed a commercial training in the field of import and export, which he completed with the examination of a commercial assistant. He then worked as a commercial clerk. From 1954 he went to the Braunschweig College , where he passed his Abitur in 1956. He studied economics at the University of Hamburg , took after an activity at the DGB and worked from 1962 to 1965 as a community director in place .

Neumann was a member of the SPD from 1948.

Neumann was from 1959 to 1962, 1968 to 1972 and 1986 to 2001 council member of the community of Stelle. In 1958 he was elected to the district assembly of the Harburg district, to which he belonged until 1971. From 1964 to 1969 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1965 to 1983. He was always drawn into parliament via the Lower Saxony state list. From 1975 to 1983 he was chairman and chairman of the working group on security issues of the SPD parliamentary group.

Public offices

Neumann served as mayor of the community of Stelle from 1968 to 1971 and from 1986 to 1996.
