Paul Anthony Newey (born September 6, 1968 in Dorset ) is a British entrepreneur and poker player from England .

Personal

In 1991, Newey was one of the co-founders of Ocean Finance after previously being laid off by a financial services firm . The company was founded with around £ 2500 and offers consolidation of smaller debts into one loan. In November 2006 he sold the company for around £ 200 million to a subsidiary of the American International Group , one of the world's largest primary insurance groups. Newey lives in Tamworth .

Poker career

Newey mainly plays cash game with high limits. He plays online under the nickname topdoll827 . Newey has been participating in prestigious live tournaments since 2012 .

Newey played the Big One for One Drop in 2012 , 2014 and 2016 , a poker tournament with a buy-in of one million US dollars and euros . In 2014, he made the leap to the final table at this event, which was held as part of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas , and finished seventh, worth more than 1.4 million dollars Space. In December 2014, Newey came second in the Super High Roller of the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Prague and received prize money of almost 560,000 euros. At the end of April 2016, he finished the EPT Super High Roller in Monte-Carlo in fifth place, which was paid for around 485,000 euros. In November 2016, Newey reached the final table at two events of the Asia Championship of Poker in Macau and secured prize money equivalent to over 860,000 US dollars. At the beginning of September 2019 he won the third event of the British Poker Open in London with a bonus of over 150,000 pounds and thus his first live tournament ever.

In total, Newey earned almost $ 5.5 million playing poker in live tournaments.
