The Big One for One Drop 2012

The Big One for One Drop 2012 was the first edition of this poker tournament . It was played from July 1-3, 2012 as part of the World Series of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and, with a buy-in of one million dollars, was the most expensive poker tournament of 2012.

The tournament in the variant No-Limit Hold'em was the 55th event on the tournament schedule of the WSOP in 2012 and took place from 1 to 3 July. The buy-in was $ 1 million, of which $ 111,111 went to Guy Laliberté's One Drop Foundation , which advocates unconditional access to clean drinking water in crisis areas. A total of 48 players took part, generating a prize pool of more than $ 42.5 million.

There were nine paid places for the 48 participants. Winner Antonio Esfandiari won the highest prize money to date that was paid out in a live poker tournament and consequently took the lead in the money list , which he had to relinquish to Daniel Negreanu after the tournament in early July 2014 .
